For 7th chord use the triad a 3rd up                            (C7 = Edim)

Remember, music is like trigonometry, it's all about 3's.

In math 3+3 = 6

In music 3+3 = 5, because the start position is inclusive, 1-2-3, 3-4-5, 5-6-7, 7-8-9 etc.
